Help with Viewing VCD on your PC

There are a lot of free or cheap VCD player software out there that you can use to play Video CD (VCD) on your PC. The Windows Media Player will work, and that comes with most Windows installation.

To use Windows Media Player, you can do the following:

  • insert the VCD in your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive
  • Use Explorer to browse to the MPEGAV folder
  • double click on the .dat file,
  • when prompt, associate it with Windows Media Player,
  • and open the file.

Another player software (not free), WinDVD, will play the VCD automatically.
