Apple releases third developer beta for iOS 15, iPadOS 15, watchOS 8, tvOS 15
Apple is now in the third generation of beta versions of its flagship operating systems, giving developers new versions of iOS 15, iPadOS 15, watchOS 8, and tvOS 15.
Beta versions are downloadable through Apple Developer Center, with updates typically delivered as live updates to enrolled devices. While a public beta is normally offered through Apple’s beta software program website, end users will have to wait until July before Apple releases the first public version.
iOS 15 brings messaging and FaceTime improvements, new focus modes, live text OCR on-device, digital ID in Wallet, updated Weather and Maps apps, and other changes .
On iPadOS 15, Apple updated multitasking functionality, as well as adding support for Home screen widgets, system-wide Quick Note, the Translate app, and Major changes to Swift Playgrounds to enable app development on iPad as well as App Store submissions.
On watchOS 8, the Fitness app wins Tai Chi and Pilates workouts, the Sleep app tracks respiratory rates, Photos adds a tiled layout and memories, and Messages introduces cursor control with the crown digital and GIF search.
Appleinsider, and Apple itself, strongly recommend that users do not install beta versions on “critical” or primary devices, as there is a remote possibility of data loss or other issues. Instead, testers should install beta versions on secondary or non-essential devices and ensure that there are enough backups of important data before updating.
