The World Fight Tournament aims to elevate Kun Khmer to another level
A new international Kun Khmer boxing event called World Fight Tournaments 2022 (WF) will be held on Cambodian soil for the first time in July, with many top boxers from around the world expected to join the fight. Recent SEA Games gold medalists Kickboxing and Kun Khmer will make appearances and face off against powerful foreign boxers.
During the partnership signing ceremony on May 26, the director of PTT (Cambodia) Ltd – the exclusive sponsor of the tournament – as well as the owner and promoters of WF, affirmed that the new event is designed to help strengthen and to promote Khmer boxing, strengthen its global recognition and elevate the sport on the international stage.
PTT Cambodia General Manager Nuttapong Kaewtrakulpong told reporters at the signing ceremony, “The World Fight Tournament is a world-class event. As a sponsor, PTT wants the world to know the potential of Cambodia as the venue for the best Kun Khmer and Kickboxing event in the world, as well as to show our ability to organize such a fight festival.
“Most importantly, PTT and its products will jointly promote the pride of Cambodians across the country, as they welcome champions from around the world to help boost national income. As the government slogan says – if the Khmers can do it, the Khmers win,” Nuttapong added.
The inaugural WF will kick off its first bout at Morodok Techo National Stadium on July 6, with live broadcasts on Bayon TV from 5-7 p.m. Although organizers have yet to reveal all of the participants, top boxer Buakaw Banchamek has already been paired, in a clash with dangerous Belarusian opponent Varats Dzmitry.
Some powerful Kun Khmer boxers will be unveiled later, while SEA gold medalists Yen Dina and Meun Mekhea – as well as bronze medalist Amarin Phuthong – appeared as guests of honor at the signing ceremony of the partnership. Representatives from Miss Wisdom World Cambodia and Miss Model of the World (Thailand) also joined the event.
Tony Anh, owner and promoter of World Fight, said, “World Fight has a clear goal to help promote Khmer Kun boxing and increase its standing in the world. This means that representatives of Khmer martial arts will soon be able to fight in the world championships, as this will bring strong boxers from all over the world to compete to promote tourism – and in particular boxing – in collaboration with the National Federation of Sports and the National Olympic Committee. from Cambodia.
“As you all know, Cambodia will host the SEA Games in 2023. World Fight will be the biggest sporting event in 2022 and this competition will help improve the quality and ability of Khmer boxing. WF will hold up to 11 tournaments from July to December with our main objective being to help Khmer boxers gain the abilities to compete in world championship level events,” he added.

WF will have famous fighters from all over the world coming to Cambodia and competing, so we hope you and all Kun Khmer boxing and kickboxing fans will give great support to the fighters.
